About Counselling and Therapy

People from all walks of life may seek counselling. Sometimes things happen in life that can be overwhelming. These may include life changes like; loss and grief following death, separation or divorce; relationship conflicts; challenges of parenting; a life threatening illness and other major life transitions.

All of these issues may sometimes feel like your world is crumbling around you. Some people see a therapist to help them explore general feelings that their lives are just not quite right or to cope with feelings of depression or anxiety. Many people also seek therapy as an opportunity to undertake personal growth in a safe and supportive environment.

Values of counselling and psychotherapy

The fundamental values of counselling and psychotherapy include a commitment to:

  • Respecting human rights and dignity by ensuring the integrity of practitioner-client relationships
  • Alleviating personal distress and suffering
  • Enhancing the quality of relationships between people
  • Appreciating the variety of human experience and culture
  • Striving for the fair and adequate provision of counselling and psychotherapy services

Meet Your Counsellor

My name is Fadeela Kirsten. I am a qualified counsellor with a BA in Psychology as well as a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. I am also a Registered Qualified Member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

I believe all people are individuals by demonstrating acceptance of each client through empathy, warmth, and genuineness. I treat all clients with sensitivity and respect, including cultural and religious differences, to ensure their dignity and privacy.

I will do my best to not only understand your experience but more importantly I will be an active participant in your therapy. Developing trust with another person who understands, sees, and accepts you as you are, is invaluable. I provide counselling to a diverse client base with a range of issues including but not limited to, depression, anxiety, pain management; relationship issues, and trauma. I also provide a support service to families and carers who provide care and support to elderly parents or who have families with a mental illness.

I keep all information you give me strictly confidential. Whether online or in-person, your confidentiality is a priority for me. There can be some exceptions to this — if you plan to harm yourself, or hurt another person. If you are in a crisis right now then please follow this link (Crisis). However, at all times, I do my very best to work with you to find the best possible solution to keep you, and others, safe

I care very deeply about my clients and I work very hard to help them achieve the health and joy they long to experience in their lives. I know your time is precious to you and that you may not have access to a counsellor where you live, or you may not be able to take time away from home or work duties to get the help you need. That is why I am here! At any time that you are ready to start online counselling click GETTING STARTED.

My area of special interest

My area of special interest is Pain Management and the associated lifestyle changes. Suffering from chronic pain also contributes to feelings of anxiety and depression

My own life experiences have played a big part in my life, both as a person as well as a therapist. I draw on these experiences to help me understand what you might be going through. For example, I suffer from chronic pain and even though I do not for one moment presume that all experiences are the same — because they are not — but I have been able to use these experiences in a positive way to develop a pain management program.

For most patients, the experience of chronic pain leads to a decrease in physical activity due to the inherent limitations pain places on the body. In addition to the psychological issues that develop in response to these limitations, numerous physical changes and adjustments occur as well.

All of these issues further contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression, both of which (a) serve to compromise a patient’s ability to cope and (b) decrease the patient’s pain threshold; these items, in turn, result in poorer treatment outcomes. If you are interested in learning how to manage your pain then please click on GETTING STARTED.
